Private Stocks

Private stocks are shares of a company that are not traded on public stock exchanges (e.g. Nasdaq, NYSE) and are typically owned by a small group of investors, such as company founders, employees, or private equity firms.

FreeWill, in partnership with Charitable Solutions LLC and Dechomai Foundation, helps facilitate private stock donations to support your favorite charity. The process looks like this:

• Once you (donor or financial advisor) submit the online form, we'll forward your inquiry to Charitable Solutions.
• Charitable Solutions will reach out to you and your chosen nonprofit to begin the process.
• Charitable Solutions will provide you with a timing estimate and fee quote.
• You complete the Memo of Understanding and DAF Agreement.
• You transfer assets to Dechomai Foundation, and receive a gift acknowledgment form.
• Dechomai Foundation sells assets for the highest possible price and completes Form 8282.
• You recommend a grant to the chosen charity.
• Dechomai grants the net proceeds to the chosen charity and closes the Donor Advised Fund.

Note that currently the minimum donation amount for private stocks is $200,000.
